UK Hallmarking

UK Law: Selling Precious Metals

A Hallmark provides an independent guarantee of precious metal purity. All items (over certain weights) sold in the UK and described as being made from gold, silver, platinum or palladium must have a legally recognised hallmark as per the Hallmarking Act 1973.

I hold a registered Hallmark at the Goldsmiths Company Assay Office in London - any items of Sterling Silver (and other precious metals) that weigh over 7.78g are required by UK Law to be properly Hallmarked before sale. Any large/heavier pieces I sell will have been sent to the Assay office to be verified and stamped with the relevant legal Hallmarks and as such prices will reflect this. Details can be found at https://www.assayofficelondon.co.uk

Items under the 7.78g threshold do not need to be Hallmarked for sale.
